I have the honour to request your approval for the creation of two new posts of Architects and two
new posts of Overseers. The approved establishment of Architects in the Architectural Office is at present seven, and in the Buildings Ordinance Office six, the staffs of these two offices being interchangeable. In 1925 the approved establishment was twelve for the Architectural Office and
eight for the Buildings Ordinance Office; in 1930 the figures were eight and seven. As regards the Architect- ural office there is a very large programme of Public Works Extraordinary in hand or shortly to be commenced, amongst which may be mentioned the new Gaol, the new Government Civil Hospital, the new Central British School, the new Kowloon Magistracy, the new Upper Levels Police Station, and the new Government House. In addition this office now undertakes, in accordance with the recommendation of the Retrenchment Commission, the construction of smaller buildings, such as markets and latrines which were
previously done by the General Works Office. Two additional Overseers are required for the same reasons.

As regards the Buildings Ordinance Office the work has been steadily increasing, and though the actual number of plans deposited and plans approved shows a slight falling off, this has been in the smaller types of
